iHome iW4
A gadget for your iPad
Another company to unveil, at the CES that’s debuting tomorrow, the latest gadget they’ve been working on lately is iHome. They’ve become successful with their iPhone and iPod alarm clock docks and now they plan on making way for another line of gadgets that will, or so they like to think, revolutionize the market with their out of the oven features, specifications and so on. The 3 new products are expected to make a big splash, but the only ones to acknowledge whether a gadget is good or not are the customers. We wrote this review about the $269.99 iHome iW4, as usual, with them in mind.
iOS compatible
When it debuted, iHome was a maker of docking accessories for the iPod. As time passed, the manufacturer branched out until it started to produce alarm clock docks compatible with the iPad, iPhone and iPod. The iHome iW4 takes off where the iW1 left off, so the company continues its strategy of building a name for itself upon Apple’s gadgets operating on iOS. The way the new release looks like wasn’t vastly changed, except here and there in the essential areas. The only difference that struck us when we laid eyes on the iW4 straight out of its box was that all the extra weight was replaced by a slimmer and lighter body that can now be moved from room to room with great ease and which makes the product easily fit in any corner you choose for it. The black of the device and the touch of silver that goes all the way to the back indicate that this is no cheap-looking alarm clock dock.
Reson8 speakers
On the front we certainly couldn’t escape the screen indicating the hour and minutes, simply because it took a big space, and that was great, since even our grandma could see the time from a distance and from different angles. On top of the gadget is where you’ll place your prized iPad and other iOS gadgets; we tested for this review to see if this depository area was strong in build and it was: moving the device with our iPad in position back and forth quickly didn’t need us to run and make sure the latter didn’t fall and break. On either side of the iW4 are the Reson8 speakers which deliver sound quality of the best level. Every song we listened to we could hear clearly, including the lyrics, and distortions weren’t even allowed.
AirPlay technology
The most noteworthy feature of this gadget is called AirPlay and it means that the user will be able to stream their music from their Apple gadget over the WiFi connection they have at home. That happened right after we set it up by use of an app that required some effort to download and then use; but, after it’s downloaded, it works super fast and well. Other notable features: an adjustable equalizer(which works fine in our test), battery backup, AUX input for all things not related to iOS and programmable snooze time.
The latest iHome iW4 did a lot of things, among them playing and also charging our iPhone, iPad and iPod, waking you up gradually to songs that are on your iPad via the Airplay feature or with , enchant you with Internet radio (with 6 FM presets) and, should you inhabit a studio apartment, there’s an Ethernet port just for you.
Review conclusion
The date this iHome iW4 is going to be released is a mystery still, but if you can get your hands on this gadget, get them, because you’ll enjoy one of the best performances an alarm clock dock ever offered.
