Acer Aspire S5

A thick new ultrabook

It will soon get harder to find a thick and heavy laptop. Ultrabooks are quickly becoming respectable winners in the war against bulkiness. And the new Acer Aspire S5 previwed today is, of course, part of them with a weight of only 1.35 kg and a thickness of just 15 mm. We should know the price and the release date somewhere this month, apparently.

Staying true to its nature, the Acer Aspire S5 will take very little space in a bag, the 1.35 kg and 15 mm of thickness contributing to that 100%. So much so, that prolonged use of this device when traveling will fortunately be made possible. If we consider the fact that all ultrabooks ever made so far – and those still in the making – are endowed with the same specifications, companies have to make their products different at least in the quality of the build and in the looks areas. The Aspire S5 is Acer’s finest example of how design can turn gadgets with similar specs into something completely different for consumers

Magnesium-alloy case

The black casing made of magnesium-alloy and the brushed effect of this product bear no resemblance to the MacBook Air whose design is copied a great deal. The body shows itself as being solid.

Resuming time for the Aspire S5 is, on paper, very impressive: 1.5 seconds. Smartphones are able to turn this ultrabook on by way of Acer Always Connect and then take updates from Facebook, Twitter and Outlook to deliver them to the user after the device wakes up.

Intel Core iSeries lend their power to the Acer Aspire S5 and the gadget can thus have a go at multitasking in a professional manner. The SSD drive will practically leave every other laptop behind with its speed. The battery is, Acer themselves claim, a couple weeks’ worth, but that remains to be seen after tests and a detailed review which is the reality about battery life. HDMI, Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 ports are all the connectivity options featured on the product.
