A new smartphone idea

The Nokia Research Center celebrated its 25^th anniversary since it was founded and wanted to hold a prominent position by launching a concept phone that would make everyone dream about the future. We are talking about the Nokia GEM concept phone; a device that is all glass and can do a variety of things, most of which you wouldn’t even think of.

The extremely ingenious phone Nokia has come up with can change its appearance according to what you need, for example, it can turn into a map or a game pad if you want to play, or, by drawing a circle it can activate the camera. Being all a display, without any plastic or bezel, this means there are no physical buttons so gestures make themselves at home.

3D viewing from all angles

You can zoom and pinch on one side, while on the other you get the full image. Nokia GEM concept can also display images in 3D allowing viewing from all angles.
What the GEM is trying to offer is something that we couldn’t believe is possible for the time being, but it doesn’t seem impossible either, for the future. The promo video created by Nokia for the GEM shows all its skills and seems rather convincing. The phone is capable of interacting with other phones that share the same features, it can be covered in one wallpaper or have one on each side and also, it can show ads on the rear, while the user is on the phone. It does all that and more, but we don’t know anything about connectivity, battery and other “earthly” things.

We liked the idea of Nokia’s GEM concept phone, like anyone would, but to be realistic it was made in order to dazzle the viewers. Distractions are good and the GEM concept phone proves that Nokia comes with very innovative idea. Let’s hope they’ll use them for achievable things as well.
