Samsung Microsoft Windows 8 Tablet
First tablet powered by Windows 8
The Korean electronics company announced that it is planning to launch the first Windows 8 tablet by the second half of 2012. Samsung went ahead of Microsoft, who didn’t announce yet the release date for Windows 8.
Apparently, the tablet will be based on the PC Series 7 model, designed for Windows 7. What is interesting in PC Series 7 is that the 10.1 inch tablet can offer both the commodity of a tablet and the advantages of a laptop. It also features a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a trackpad, for a more sophisticated use.
Intel Core i5 processor
The Windows 8 tablet created for testing was called Windows Developer Preview Tablet and it featured a 11.6 inch display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, a second generation Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM. The tablet had a poor battery and a very noisy fan, while the hardware was more sluggish.
As for Microsoft, the new version of Windows is supposed to bring success and represent a strong competitor for Apple. Microsoft didn’t offer so far good enough OS for both personal computers and tablets, but its new version is supposed to work smoothly on tablets, desktops and laptops.
Going back to Samsung, the South Korean company’s officials declared that the improved version of Series 7 PC will start selling beginning with Q3 2012. They also said that once Windows 8 is launched, they will come up with an up date for Series 7 users.
Partnership between companies
Samsung was the single company who actually materialized their interest in Windows 8 tablets. Other companies like Asus, Dell and HP have also shown interest, but didn’t announce anything in this matter.
However, with Samsung it has already been decided. The company signed back in September a partnership with Microsoft, for developing the first Windows 8 tablet.
