Sony Xperia Ion
A new phone available with LTE
Sony took advantage of the last day of CES 2012 that ended last Thursday and showed off its Xperia Ion, a smartphone that convinced the audience that the company is still going as strong as ever. This device will be available with LTE, for the first time in Sony’s history, and it will have the release date in March at a price that will be announced as soon as possible.
Sony is not an adept of the trend starring very thin smartphones that are made these days. No, the Xperia Ion previewed today concentrates itself on staying bulky and showing a very solid aluminum build that people who prefer durability over strong aesthetics will enjoy to a greater extent. A plastic rear is nowhere in sight, there’s only the same aluminum material. But this unibody design has one inconvenient factor: the consumer will not have access to the internal bits, especially to the battery, a 1900mAh type. Fortunately, the storage that is made of 16GB is easily complemented by support in the form of a microSD slot that can receive 32GB.
1.5 GHz Dual-core processor
This amount of memory won’t really satisfy the large majority of consumers, because the 12-megapixel cam on the back, the one on the front, the photos it produces and the video capture of 1080p and 720 p will have to be used in such a way as to not overheat the capacity.
The display of the Sony Xperia Ion smartphone is 4.6″ and the 1280 x 720 pixels features the option of 720p video play. The processor is a 1.5 GHz dual core and, in combination with the AT&T LTE network, the device is supposed to work without ever slowing down and the speeds when downloading stuff are rumored to be very fast. Without a professional review and an advanced test it’s impossible to estimate that. Connectivity comes in the shape of a HDMI port.
The OS will be, for now, Android 2.3 and it is still unclear whether the Sony Xperia Ion will receive an Android Ice Cream Sandwich update.
